Rebuilding has officially begun in the city of Bay St. Louis. “This was
the first (post-Katrina) building permit issued in Bay St. Louis,” said local contractor Eddie Clark from the Ballentine
St. site of Gaynelle Acker’s once and future home. “It’s a ray of hope for this area, you know?
A little bit of sunshine – let people start seeing some hope around here.”

Gaynelle Acker, a retired widow on a fixed income, and her daughter,
Farren, a secretary for the City of Bay St. Louis both saw their homes destroyed when Hurricane Katrina swept through –
like so many, they had no insurance to rebuild.
The family now lives in their very own Category 5 Rated
Creole Bungalow, made possible by Eddie Clark Construction and the generosity of those who wanted to do something to help
the region.
